About

Our Mission

Who

The Garden Club of Mt. Tabor was organized in February, 1953 and on its first anniversary in 1954 became a member of the Garden Club of New Jersey. The club’s membership was originally limited to Mt. Tabor residents. In 1962 membership was opening to non-residents. All people from Mt. Tabor and surrounding communities who are interested in our objectives are invited to join the Garden Club and to participate in our activities.

What

Garden Club activities include the planting and maintenance of flower beds, window boxes, and tubs around the community and the planting of commemorative tress and shrubs. We also sponsor topical programs which are open to the public.

When

The Garden Club meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Event information here.

Where

When the Garden Club of Mt. Tabor was founded, meetings were held in members homes. In 1962, permission was obtained from the Camp Meeting Association (the leaseholders’ board of trustees) to use the historic Bethel in Trinity Park for our meetings. Since 2020, we have been flexible in our use of virtual and outdoor spaces to take adequate precaution for the health of our members. Locations for events remain TBD on a case-by-case basis.

Why

Our main objectives are to promote general interest in gardening in the community, to encourage civic beautification, to study and teach the fine art of horticulture, to aid in the conservation and protection of our natural resources, to stimulate an interest in gardening and conservation among the youth of our community, and to further the objectives of the Garden Club of New Jersey, of which we are a member.
